Inactivated influenza virus surface antigens (haemagglutinin & neuraminidase)
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis of flu in adult & childn ≥3 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/SC Adult & childn 3-17 yr 0.5 mL. Childn <9 yr who have not previously been vaccinated w/ a seasonal flu vaccine A 2nd dose of 0.5 mL should be given after an interval of at least 4 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to flu vaccine, eggs (ovalbumin, chicken proteins), formaldehyde, cetyltrimethyl ammon Br, polysorbate 80 or gentamicin. Patients w/ febrile illness or acute infection.
Special Precautions
Not to be administered intravascularly. May interfere w/ serological testing.
Adverse Reactions
Adult: Headache; fatigue, pain. Sweating; myalgia, arthralgia, malaise, shivering, redness, swelling, ecchymosis, induration. Childn: Headache, drowsiness; loss appetite; GI symptoms; irritability; myalgia; fatigue, malaise, pain, redness, swelling, induration. Sweating; diarrhoea, vomiting, arthralgia; fever, shivering; ecchymosis.
Drug Interactions
Immunological response may be diminished w/ immunosuppressant treatment.
